Dr. James E. Byrne, 65, of Moore Township, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 19, 2008, at his home. Dr. Byrne was born November 27, 1942 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and was the son of the late Eleanor Young Byrne and Harry C. Byrne. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Byrne attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and Northwestern University School of Dentistry and Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Byrne was a founding partner of Carbon Oral Surgery Associates, located in Wind Gap, Layton, and Stroudsburg. Dr. Byrne retired from medical practice six years ago to devote himself to his hobby of creating beauty with wood, especially with the wood lathe. Dr. Byrne was known as an excellent photographer, skilled gardener, and maker of Windsor chairs. Dr. Byrne was also a generous teacher, a wonderful storyteller, and a true friend. He had a special love for his family and his beloved Labrador retrievers, Klondike and Echo. He always had a quest for knowledge and a natural creativity that was reflected in everything he did. Dr. Byrne served as Secretary of the Moore Township Board of Zoning Examiners. He was past President and Newsletter Editor of the Lehigh Valley Woodturners. For the past five years he was an invited participant in the Echo Lake Woodturning Symposium. Professionally, he served on the Board of Trustees of Gnaden-Hatten Hospital. Survivors: He is survived by his beloved Judith Rodwin of his home, his sister Pamela (wife of John Easley of Clarendon Hills, Illinois), his nephew J. Britton Good of Chicago, his stepson David Austin and his wife Mary, his granddaughter Samantha of Northampton, several close cousins ​​and many friends. Funeral: Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 24th, at Rural Valley Cemetery in Cadebackville, NY. Rev. Stephen Haston will officiate. Arrangements will be handled by Knight-Oak-Moody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main Street, Port His Jarvis, NY.
