Andrew Ray Carl of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away at Sumner Regional Medical Center on Friday, January 20th after a short illness. Ray was born on August 31st, 1933 in Waverly, Tennessee, one of eight children to William Lee and Mary Lane Carl.

Ray served in the U.S. Navy before attending Austin Peay State University and earning a degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee. Ray served the communities and farmers of Hawkins, Macon, Robertson, Stewart and Sumner counties as a Soil Conservation Officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring after 35 years of service.

Nancy Pinson and Ray were married April 20, 1968, and spent the next 34 years raising a family, attending Gallatin First United Methodist Church, collecting antiques, and caring for friends and family.

Ray enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, wood turning, basket weaving, dining and socializing at local restaurants, coffee with friends at Dairy Queen or Wendy’s, baking cookies and the occasional corny joke always delivered with a wink and a smile. Ray was self-taught in wood turning and in his retirement he honed his skills and attended many local and national wood turning symposiums.

Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Mark Raymond of Carmel, Indiana, granddaughter Taylor Nia (Mike) and great-granddaughter Elliot of Carmel, Indiana, twin sister Mae Glover and youngest sister Sue Carl, both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Pinson Carl, his parents, William Lee and Mary Lane Carl, and his siblings, Grace Carl, Mattie Spann, Mary Lee Langford, Myrtle Spann and William Carl.

Special thanks to the staff at Charter Senior Living in Gallatin, who became friends, and the CCU and Hospice teams at Sumner Regional Medical Center for their care and support.

Visitation will be held from 3pm to 6pm on Friday, January 27th at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The funeral will be held at 12pm on Saturday, January 28th at Alexander Chapel with visitation from 10am until the time of the funeral.
